Students seeking a bachelor’s degree in magazine face realistic and exacting assignments designed to prepare them for careers in the magazine field, both in print and online. In small classes, students develop and perfect their ability to research, write, and edit. In addition, they study areas such as graphics design, multimedia, law, ethics, and social media.

In addition to the comprehensive Newhouse School learning outcomes listed in the School’s Educational Mission , students in the Magazine major are expected to achieve the following additional learning outcomes:

  • Synthesize reportage, research and other storytelling techniques to create voice-driven narratives for a variety of platforms and audiences.

Major Requirements


Students are required to complete 35 Newhouse credits in the magazine major. The major requirements are outlined below.
