LAW 837 - European Union Policy: Human Rights and Security3 credit(s) This course is an introduction to European Union Law. The course contains four thematic units. Part 1 introduces the European Union and its main institutions. Students will familiarize themselves with the evolution of the EU legal doctrines. Part 2 explores the development of European Human Rights Law and how the EU has approached human rights. Part 3 explores the way the EU deals with security, within the EU and in EU relations with the international community. Specific issues such as the challenge of European integration, the institutions of the EU, human rights in the post-9/11 period, counter-terrorism, and privacy in an era of security will be examined. The final part looks at the EU¿s foreign relations (EU-US and EU-Africa).
