LAW 817 - Military Law and Procedure SeminarCollege of Law 2 credit(s) Irregularly Military Law and Procedure is an overview of the military justice system and its procedural application in today’s Armed Forces of the United States. Students will read, discuss, and practice how the Uniform Code of Military Justice and its procedural applications ensure proper discipline within the ranks of today’s armed forces. The course will trace the history of discipline within those armed forces, the development of the rule of law in the military, the practice aspects of advocating before a courts-martial, as well as understand the non-judicial and administrative aspects of discipline in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. Additionally, the students will study the application of the UCMJ on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the new challenges faced by commanders and their legal advisers in the battlefields of tomorrow.
