In addition to the professional education requirements mentioned above, students in mathematics education complete the B.S. in mathematics and the following requirements.
Core Requirements
Mathematics education majors must complete the Liberal Arts Core curriculum with these additional specific requirements:
WRT 205 Writing Studio 2 or
WRT 209 Writing Studio 2 (Honors)
One approved history (HST) course
One social science course (other than history (HST) or psychology (PSY))
One fine arts within Arts and Sciences (FIA) course
One humanities course (cannot be history (HST) or fine arts (FIA) One multicultural humanities or social science course
Two-course sequence in calculus-based physics
Foreign language proficiency achieved in one of three ways:
(1) Passing of level three language in high school
(2) Passing of a competency test if language was learned through means other than formal study (i.e., foreign language spoken at home, etc.)
(3) Completing one of Syracuse University’s four- credit 101 language courses or its equivalent as determined by the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics
