This environmental sciences curriculum, sponsored jointly by the departments of biology and earth sciences, seeks to train students in environmental issues with a multidisciplinary and research-based scientific approach. Students who select this program will major either in biology or earth sciences (geology), with an emphasis on environmental sciences. Their program will include a core of courses from both biology and earth sciences, as well as a strong background in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Both departments have a long tradition of affording research opportunities to their undergraduates, and students in this program will be encouraged to participate in an environmentally related research project. In their senior year, students in this program will participate in a capstone seminar course taught jointly by faculty from both departments.
